Freight compliance is tightening across road, sea, and shore. Carriers must address revoked ELDs, prepare for updated EU marine equipment standards, and monitor new UK crew-welfare requirements while Brake Safety Week inspections run across North America.
What must carriers do about the 15 revoked ELDs?
FMCSA revoked 15 Electronic Logging Devices in two batches after finding they failed technical requirements under 49 CFR Part 395, Appendix A. Carriers must stop using the affected devices, revert to paper logs or compliant logging software, and install a registered replacement.
10 devices revoked July 9: replacement deadline September 8, 2026
5 devices revoked August 6: replacement deadline October 6, 2026
Continued use after the applicable deadline may be treated as having no record of duty status under 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1), creating out-of-service exposure.
Review the affected-device list in TruckingInfo’s FMCSA report and confirm every truck’s replacement plan.

What changes under EU Marine Equipment Regulation 2026/1434?
Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1434 takes effect August 31, 2026. It updates design, performance, and testing standards under the Marine Equipment Directive. Manufacturers should compare each MED item against the new annex, identify revised standards or “new row” entries, and coordinate certification updates with their notified body.
Existing certificates generally remain valid unless affected requirements or testing standards change.
What does the UK seafarer rule require?
The Merchant Shipping Regulations 2026 require social connectivity facilities; internet access for social communication and engagement; in crew accommodation, except storerooms, subject to specific exceptions. The regulations also update food, safety, labor, and government-ship provisions.

What should logistics leaders do now?
During Brake Safety Week, August 23–29, inspectors will focus on brake systems, including drums and rotors. Complete documented pre-trip, post-trip, and preventive-maintenance checks before dispatch.
