What would the REVOKE Act change?

The REVOKE Act, introduced by Reps. Taylor and Figures on September 2, would require an active USDOT number for covered commercial motor vehicle operations. It would also let the Transportation Secretary immediately inactivate a number when a carrier lacks valid registration or fails required periodic updates. Read the bill text.

The legislation targets “chameleon carriers” that change identities or registrations to evade enforcement. The American Trucking Associations supports the bill, which remains in committee and is not yet law.

• Confirm insurance, registration, and safety records before tendering freight.

Why could Q4 freight rates surge?

Tender rejections are near 13.5%, dry van spot rates around $2.21 per mile, and diesel remains volatile. Uber Freight has warned that sustained tight capacity could drive a Q4 rate surge. If REVOKE removes marginal carriers, effective capacity tightens further.

FMCSA’s 2027 UCR fees rise approximately 20%, effective October 1, 2026. FMCSA has also paused USDOT deactivations for missed biennial updates due on or after June 1 during the Motus rollout. The pause is temporary, not a waiver.

What should shippers do before peak season?

CVSA Brake Safety Week ran August 23–29, focusing on brake drums and air-disc rotors. Results are pending; April’s Brake Safety Day posted a 14.3% brake-related out-of-service rate. Maintenance compliance remains a capacity variable.
