We are exactly one week away from the sunset of Section 122 tariffs. While the 10% surcharge disappears on July 24, the relief will be short-lived. Replacement Section 301 forced-labor duties, projected between 10% and 12.5%, are expected to take effect almost immediately after. This narrow window has triggered a massive frontloading wave, pushing Transpacific spot rates to yearly highs. On the domestic front, the "freight recession" is firmly in the rearview mirror. Truckload rates are currently holding 16% above the 2018 baseline, while LTL pricing has skyrocketed 76.5% year-over-year. This squeeze is driven by a significant contraction in supply; over 48,000 drivers have exited the market recently, leaving carrier rejection rates at elevated levels.
