What changes for 3PLs?

Regardless of Tuesday’s result, tariffs stay an executive-branch call and volatility continues into 2027, DC Velocity reports. After the Supreme Court rejected IEEPA tariffs and Section 122’s July 24 expiration, policy moved to Sections 301 and 232, which need no congressional vote.

  • The long-term highway bill lands in the lame duck or the new Congress.

  • Watch it for broker rules after Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II; keep 2027 contracts flexible.

What does Gainesville add?

Georgia Ports opened the $134 million Gainesville Inland Port, linking Northeast Georgia shippers to Savannah by Norfolk Southern rail: rail cuts cost on heavier loads, truck-only stays faster. It serves North Georgia and the Carolinas.

Georgia Ports Authority’s Gainesville Inland Port opening
  • Capacity: 200,000 containers annually; 26,000 shift to rail in year one.

  • Rail connects to Savannah’s 40 weekly vessel calls; trucks reach I-85 and I-985.

Why are air rates rising?

Week 43 (Oct. 19–25) global air-cargo spot rates climbed 5% to $3.80/kg, 38% above last year, even as tonnage fell 2% and capacity fell 1%, per WorldACD data via Forwarder News. A supply-led rally: Gulf capacity sits 19% below pre-war levels and jet fuel ran some 111% above last year.

  • Asia Pacific–U.S. volume rose 9%; Asia Pacific–EU chargeable weight fell 16% after the July 1 de minimis change.

  • For inventory management for ecommerce, re-quote air on short validity and check fuel pass-through terms.

What does it mean for the I-95 corridor?

Plan for localized I-95 disruption, not a corridor-wide closure. MDTA’s schedule and PennDOT’s notice flag overnight work near Baltimore and Philadelphia.

  • Fort McHenry Tunnel: southbound Bore 2 and northbound Bore 3 close 8 p.m.–4 a.m., Nov. 2–5.

  • Girard Point Bridge: northbound lane restrictions Nov. 2–6, 9 p.m.–5 a.m.; plan PHL drayage detours.
