Shippers should act on three changes: MSC and Zim resumed Suez routing on a shared Asia–U.S. East Coast service; Roadrunner is adding truck-only Canada-to-U.S. LTL and a November rate increase; and Section 338 coverage on Canadian goods changes October 30. Review replenishment timing, cross-border budgets and SKU landed costs.

Why are MSC and Zim going back through Suez?

MSC and Zim Integrated Shipping Services resumed Suez Canal transit on a shared Asia–U.S. East Coast service, replacing the southern Africa routing as Far East services return to the shorter route, reports Journal of Commerce. East Coast transit times should shorten. Re-time replenishment and compare total transit before choosing West Coast transload.

What is Roadrunner’s new Canada service?

Roadrunner's new outbound Canada-to-U.S. LTL service connects Canadian shippers to about 40 major U.S. metro markets by truck, with direct linehaul and no rail. The carrier cites fewer handling points, faster transit and real-time visibility, reports FreightWaves. Its 5.9% general rate increase takes effect November 2. Budget for it when weighing cross-border LTL options.

What changes in Canada tariffs on October 30?

An October 23 proclamation revises the 50% Section 338 tariff list, removing plywood sheets, some paper products, certain machinery and refrigeration equipment, and certain packing crates and boxes. Certain valves, carpets and waste products are among the additions. Changes take effect October 30, 2026; duties apply regardless of USMCA origin and stack on Section 232 tariffs, per the White House fact sheet. Recheck HS codes and landed costs on Canadian SKUs.

Key figures

  • Roadrunner GRI: 5.9%, effective November 2.

  • New service reach: about 40 U.S. metro markets.

  • Section 338 duties: 50%; list changes effective October 30, 2026.
