Stord closed its largest acquisition yet on Oct. 21, buying AMS Fulfillment and roughly 1 million square feet of ecommerce space. Four days later, UPS peak surcharges start. Brands should recheck fulfillment contracts and parcel economics this week, not after Black Friday.

What does the Stord–AMS deal change for ecommerce brands?

AMS runs 10 million-plus orders a year for beauty, wellness and DTC brands from California, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Stord kept terms quiet; Axios reported about $200 million.

  • Stord’s network spans Texas, Georgia, Canada and the UK: $15 billion in GMV, 1,000+ brands.

  • Prior deals: Shipwire, Ware2Go, a Pitney Bowes Kentucky site, a former Quiet Logistics building in Dallas.

Ask which entity operates your building and who honors service commitments during integration. Judge third party logistics providers on accountability, not square footage.

What UPS charges begin Oct. 25?

UPS runs demand surcharges through Jan. 16, 2027, peaking in the core holiday window.

  • Oct. 25–Nov. 21 and Dec. 27–Jan. 16: $0.50 Ground Residential and Ground Saver, $1.35 Air.

  • Nov. 22–Dec. 26: $0.75 ground, $2.50 air.

  • Shippers with 20,000+ packages in any week since October 2025 face a volume-indexed schedule.

Re-run landed cost per order before Sunday and test split shipments against real destinations.

What does the FMCSA review mean for carrier vetting?

FMCSA sought emergency OMB approval after schools removed for fraud re-listed on the Training Provider Registry under new names. Nearly 10,000 sites are shuttered, 800 under review. New listings would need lesson plans, compliant training vehicles, instructor credentials, state authorization and facilities, Transport Topics reports. Check who trained the driver, not just the carrier’s authority.

Mid-Atlantic Watch

For the I-95 corridor from Maryland to New England, confirm receiving windows and carrier cutoffs against the new parcel schedule. Book appointments early.

CVSA Brake Safety Week each August remains the annual benchmark for carrier brake readiness.

Key takeaway: Audit fulfillment contracts and parcel costs this week, before peak surcharges begin.
