Geopolitics The Strait of Hormuz remains a live operational risk. A GasLog LNG carrier was reportedly damaged while exiting the Strait, two new UKMTO attacks were reported, and roughly 30 vessels have diverted to reduce exposure. At the same time, Houthi threats against Saudi Red Sea flows put an estimated 2.5 million barrels per day at risk. Rates Container freight rates are slipping ahead of August GRIs as carriers cut prices to secure volume, even with geopolitical risk still elevated. Maersk is also moving to weekly fuel surcharge adjustments for inland services in Spain, Portugal, and France, increasing short-cycle cost volatility for European routing. That combination creates a narrower decision window for procurement, inventory positioning, and Mid-Atlantic fulfillment strategy.
