The Panama Canal Authority will modify its Neopanamax booking system on August 30 for booking dates beginning September 13. Customers may hold multiple slots for the same date or consecutive dates, creating flexibility while water-resource constraints continue to limit dependable capacity.

• 63 Neopanamax reservation slots will be offered weekly.

• Minimum allocations will support container, LNG, LPG, vehicle, bulk, and other vessel segments.

• A confirmed reservation remains the only guarantee of a specific transit date.

How severe is Typhoon Saudel’s port disruption?

Typhoon Saudel has pushed global container queues above Covid-era levels, with more than 4.3 million TEU waiting to berth worldwide. Shanghai Yangshan and Waigaoqiao, along with Ningbo-Zhoushan, face vessel bunching, missed cutoffs, rolled bookings, and equipment shortages after terminal suspensions.

• Shanghai waits have reached approximately 5–11 days.

• Ningbo waits range from roughly 3–6 days.

• Normalization may take weeks rather than days.

What will the IMO discuss September 1–4?

The IMO’s Net-Zero Framework working group will focus on carbon pricing, fuel-intensity standards, lifecycle emissions, and verification. No final adoption is expected during this session, but the outcome will influence future fuel costs, reporting duties, and ocean procurement decisions.
